| This merger was the result of two men, Steven K. Benway and Douglas R. Ferris, P.E. who after collaborating together on projects for a number of years realized that the trend of the industry was towards increased regulation and more cooperation between the construction and engineering company. Both often have to work hand and hand to ensure that the plans are approved and they are feasible to be built. Also both parties have to work closely with the regulators both at the Federal, state, and local level so that again projects are feasible. This prevents regulators from approving projects that appear good on paper, however cannot be built in accordance with field conditions. The principles decided to form Zebra-Tech, LLC an Integrated Design-Build company utilizing the resources and assets of the former companies. SK Benway was formed in 1977 and had provided civil construction, earthwork, and general construction to the North Country for nearly 3 decades. The focus was on larger earth moving jobs, residential, road construction, foundation and septic systems. In addition, S.K. Benway Construction focused on manmade ponds. These ponds enhanced the value of individual properties and benefitted the environment. ESE was formed in 1993 and the principle of ESE had been practicing engineering since 1981. The focus of ESE was on civil, environmental, and geotechnical engineering in the North Country and Vermont with a specialty service of invasive species control primarily focusing on zebra mussels. Both S.K. Benway Construction and ESE worked with residential, municipal, and industrial clientele and it was through this similar clientele that the intersection of these two gentlemen became more frequent until they formalized their relationship. ESE/ZT is a limited liability company that provides full engineering and construction services for civil, environmental, and geotechnical projects including commercial diving for salvage and invasive species controls including zebra mussels and Eurasian milfoil. The design build aspect now has expanded to include design construction and monitoring of constructed wetlands for tertiary treatment of wastewater effluent. |
